POEMS
OH! TOLERANCE!
“Violence, chaos, confusion, war
Are you not familiar with them?”
Echoed some invisible spirit:
“Yes, very much!”
“Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Friends,
Is anyone ready to give up?”
Echoed from the invisibility:-
“No, Not at all!”
A child at home learns of defeating his pals
In the examination; in the games.
A student at school hears of repeated phrase
“Competition, cut- throat competition.”
Oh! Where are you?
The thing of yester– days,
The dream that exhausted young,
The stabilizer of the world,
Yes, Yourself, Tolerance!
Alas! He’s gone, out of vision,
Vanished from the horizon of eyes
Erased away from the minds of men
I do hope, he comes back.
“Yes, please do come back.”
This land of Buddha, Ashoka, Gandhi,
The land of ‘satya’ and ‘ahimsa’,
Now the centre of communal riots
The land of poverty, terrorism, naxalism,
This land longs for your presence,
To quench the thirst for peace and harmony.
But Alas!
I shed a few drops
Realizing that my good old friend,
My calm, composed, dear, companion,
Is gone,
Never to comeback again,
He has abandoned us all,
Forever!
